I must admit I was turned on by the music of the film. The title song - Hum Tum as well as its instrumental versions were sufficient for me to commit a very serious violation of my principles - going alone to a theater to watch a Rani Mukherjee film. But I think my money spent on the movie as well as samosas and chai was not wasted thanks to the effortless comic acting of Saif - the chief protagonist of the plot.
Kunal Kohli manages well to potray the differences in most men and women - I must admit that his choice of characters was rather well thought of. Saif has the timings and the looks to be a true brat. Careless, wreckless and funny. Rani also manages somewhat to potray a simple, girl next door character. The movie is all about how initial differences are overcome with time and circumstances, and something stronger and more binding - LOVE - overpowers these differences and brings the two of them together.
Saif leaves little to be desired. I believe the more we see of him, the more we realize why he is gaining popularity this late. Where the hell was he hiding. While Rani puts in a honest effort, I think she still has a long way to go. Her dresses are horrible, specially in songs - her Jeans doesnt fit neither her height nor her breadth. I think she must work hard on at least the breadth part if she wants to turn around in the movies. Its a joy to watch Rishi Kapoor back in action. He has grown in true Raj Kapoor tradition - God knows which mills flour goes to the elder Kapoors. But on a serious note, I think his personna is too large for a supporting role. Just like Amitabh Bacchan gets more applause in a lead role even in recent movies, I believe Rishi should either stick to movies in which he gets a meatier role or stick to family business. Kiron Kher as Ranis mother is just about OK. Jimmy, needs much more experience to even come closer to appreciation.
Overall, the movie is worth watching. And the music is worth buying. Go for it be in Roxy Seattle or Innovative in Bangalore.
