Don't think you would hum Hum Tum!

Hum Tum

Finally writing a review after a long time....

Going by the promos and trailors, Hum Tum seems to be an interesting movie. Don’t know much about the story, but the way they’re publicising it, with the cartoon strips in the newspaper and everything, seems like it will be worth watching once.

But when you know its the movie of a director whose last one was Mujhse Dosti Karoge, you don’t have too many expectations.

Thats the same way I was thinking about the music..wanted to check it out, but didnt have too many expectations. Thank God I didnt buy the CD! The album is only average-ish. A few good songs, and a few mediocre ones. Thats all there is to describing Hum Tum’s music.

Going song by song, the best song of the lot should be

#Ladki Kyun

Sung by Shaan and Alka Yagnik, the song is pleasant to the ears, no excessive drumbeats/guitars n stuff. Those are there but are not drowning out the singers voice. Saif and Rani also sing some lines in the song, which are not very very witty but the way its included in the song, makes them pretty funny!

’’ Saif: I mean you’re all the same yaar!

’Hum achhe dost hain par uss nazar se tumhe kabhi dekha nahi, woh sab to theek hai par uss baare mein kabhi socha’

’’uff yeh kaisi shirt pehente, baal kaise kataate ho, gaadi tez chalate ho, tum jaldi mein kyun khaate ho!!’ Gimme a break!’’

Obviously Saif and Rani’s voice don’t match with Alka n Shaan’s, but thats fine, its not THAT distinct, after we’re all used to seeing Saif talking in his bicycle tire voice n then and then suddenly startin to sing ’Kuchh to Hua hai’ in Shaan’s voice...

I like this one song quite a lot, and if you want to listen to it, just download it from somewhere, don’t buy the whole album.

I will rate the other songs in the album compared to this one taking this one as a 5.

#Chak De

Sonu Nigam is strictly OK in the song. Considering that this is the same person who sang Kal Ho Na Ho, this is really surprising. But what can I say, the song isn’t KHNH either.

In the picturisation, where we see Saif jumping around trees, and I mean that literally, in case you havent seen the promos, the song is ’jumpy’ like that!

Even Sadhana Sargam doesnt sound nice to the ears.

Not a soothing melody, not a totally danceable no., not even meaningful lyrics, this song is passable. Its one of those songs which come and go in the movie, and you don’t even notice.

This would get a 2 - 2.5

#Hum Tum

The title track of the album, Hum Tum is somewhere between OK and good. You could say its nice. The tune is a bit different from what we usually hear these days. Its a slow song, but it does get boring after the first stanza. (lol)

The trailors announce that this is going to be the ’most romantic no. of the year’ or something like that with the usual lead pair singing in the rain! LOL. If this is THE most romantic no. of the year, we might as well stick to KHNH from last year!

This would get a 3 - 3.5 .

#Gore Gore

I didnt like this song.

The song starts with people singing ’gore gore yeh chhore’ repetitively followed by ’ooh yeah’s, so I think you get a picture of whats coming up.

First words of alka yagnik are ’yeh ishk ishk chillate hain, yeh gore gore se chhore’

Now when you hear those kinda lyrics, you prepare yourself for a Raveena Tandon and Govinda kinda song! Totally unclassy! Totally NOT for Saif and Rani! I can’t even imagine Rani singing like that!

Its the same girl vs boys thing, but Ladki Kyun wa sa lot better n funnier. This one is on the same hackneyed ’shaadi is jhamela’ type of https://lyrics.

Sounds similar to 90’s songs, not exactly THAT bad, but avoid it if you can.

This would get a 2-2.5

#Yaara Yaara

Udit Narayan singing Yaara Yaara Main to fisal gaya re! in a pattern similar to nursery rhymes!

The lyrics and tune sound as if you have heard a song like this thousands of times atleast in hindi movies of the 90s! Even the music is the same. The trite lyrics make it boring. I don’t know whether to rate it higher than Gore Gore or not. It seems slightly better, would give it a 2.5-3

#Hum tum- Instumental

You must be wondering why I called this an OK album when all its got is songs which are so mediocre. Now this one, the instrumental version of Hum Tum is good. Pleasant to hear, not excellent, but I liked it. I think you will like this one more than the song.

Would rate it 3.5 to 4.

#U n I, Mere Dil Vich hain Hum Tum

Listen to it the first time, and you’ll immediately think of Tere Naal Nachna, and the song starts and you recognise it Juggy D..

Lyrics as such are nothing special...they just keep on singing oh-oh Hum tum- mere dil vich hain hum tum...but the song sounds ’cool’ More so because you’re listening to it after the 90’s song-ish yaara yaara and gore gore.

Time pass gaana hai...teenagers like me or the college going ’hep’ crowd might like it, I think atleast its better than the two I just mentioned.

But its definitely not a song you’re likely to remember a month after the movie’s out of theatres.

Would rate it 3.5.

Overall, I suggest you don’t buy the album, just catch hold of any particular song that you would like to listen to. Definitely not worth spending money on it CD.

Its the same Jatin-Lalit who were behind songs like Tauba and Suno Na from Chalte Chalte who are behind this HumTum album, and looks like theyre going straight downhill!

Comments are (OBVIOUSLY) awaited :D :):)
