Love stories interest me, that’s how I chose to see this film. The promos and title impressed me highly and I decided it was a MUST watch. But well, when I was watching the film, it felt as though I had already seen it… NO I haven’t lost my mind, but somehow each scene, each dialogue, each incident, everything was so familiar that I could actually predict what was coming next. And then I thought as to what could it be???
Well the film is ”inspired” by a Hollywood film. Remember that Julia Robert- Hugh Grant starer “Notting Hill”??? And since it is one of my favorites and I have it on DVD, and watch it every week, I was left in a FIX!!! But since I had paid for the ticket, I had to watch it!!! For those who have not seen the English version, here’s the story….
A lonely and motherless girl of a rich and affluent father played by Katrina Kaif, is engaged with another major business tycoon Anil Kapoor. The wedding is more of a business deal than anything. While the girl shops all over London for her wedding and feels lonely she meets Akshay Kumar (exactly notting hill style). He is an employee with a car company who has come to London for some training while his fiancé Bipasha Basu is in paris for her fashion shows. They bump into each other and her dress gets spoilt and she goes to his house to change… whateva!!! Then what follows is a series of bumping into each other. On the roads, railway stations, shopping malls. And finally they become friends. Slowly love creeps in. and the forgetful man that Akshay is, he forgets that he is engaged and they become intimate and totally crazy about each other. But their trip to La La Land come to an end when Katrina earns bad publicity for her father in news papers due to a secret which is leaked out by someone.(SOOOO completely notting hill-ish!!!) she believes it to be Akshay and disappears. But as fate has it, they meet again and then there’s a happy ending!!!
The WORST part about the movie is the SONGS!!! Trust me I lost count after the 6th one. There are songs for EACH incident. A song for his engagement, one for hers, one for their meeting, one for their dating, one for their dreaming, and for proposing, and for waiting, for parting, for wedding, for getting back together… and and and….. I saw the night show and was like totally irritated with the songs and by the end of the film I was so low with a head ache.
The best part about the film has to be Kat : ) I mean Katrina Kaif. She’s turned into one good actress. She was the paisa wasool of the film. I guess Salman’s company has benefited her!!! I must say that she is much better than Bips, Anil and for that matter Akshay too. She looks pretty and acts well. Well to-be-Mrs. Khan, I am totally impressed!! (Only for that red bindi u wore for ur wedding scenes... was that to prove that muslims dont wear them and sallu bhai doesnt like it??? it was a major ’’nazar battu’’ if u know what that means; ) )
All over the movie is average, watch it if u have nothing else to do. But please don’t plan a week-end outing on this one!!!
