:.cute film.:

Humko Deewana Kar Gaye has its share of romance, light moments and songs as the story begins. But there’s an undercurrent of strong emotions all through.

Akshay Kumar and Bipasha Basu have an arranged match, the film starts with their engagement. He is transferred to Canada and she, a fashion designer, goes off to Paris for a series of shows.

In Canada he accidentally meets Katrina Kaif the poor little rich girl who lives in five star comfort while shopping for her impending wedding, sponsored by richie rich daddy and fiancé Anil Kapoor. Anil doesn’t accompany her because he is busy buying shares and factories.

Akshay and Katrina go from one accidental meeting to another and are drawn closer and closer to each other.

Now this is where the trouble starts. It takes them eons and many many songs to realise their love by when it is too late cause Anil has come to claim Katrina and take her back to India to be married. ....

The film is a triumph from the director’s point of view. That Raj Kanwar is a good storyteller, who caters to the demands of the Indian movie-going audience, is well-known by now. But in Humko Deewana Kar Gaye, it’s the treatment that saves an otherwise routine story from sinking. The turning point in the first half come as a surprise and the interval point raises the expectations for a dramatic second half. Despite a few deficiencies, the second half comes out a winner, for it is in this half that Raj offers what he specialises in – emotions.

And now to the performances! The life of the enterprise is undoubtedly Katrina Kaif, who looks good, delivers her lines effectively and emotes with utmost conviction.Humko Dewwana Kar Gaye should catapult her to the big league instantly and she should concentrate more on roles of substance henceforth.

Akshay Kumar is very controlled and handles this difficult role with sincerity. An actress of Bipasha’s calibre deserved a better role. Her characterisation is not well defined. She is wasted in an inconsequential role.Anil leaves an impression in a brief role. Bhagyashree is equally nice. Helen tends to get loud at places.

Anu Malik’s music has a different sound and the best part is they’ve been merged beautifully in the script. Cinematography is top class . The film is rich in visuals and the outcome is splendid. The background music is very effective. Dialogues are first-rate. They sound fresh to the ears and elevate the emotional scenes considerably.Go for it!
