Years ago I was out playing pool & in the background was a jukebox pumping out music.During the evening an amazing song filled the air.The beat was addictive, the sound was captivating, the vocals were incredible-I just had to know what that song was. That song was Crawling by Linkin Park.
LP consists of Brad Delson (guitar) Mike Shinoda (vocals/complete eye candy) Rob Bourdon (drums) Joseph Hahn (Mixing) & Chester Bennington (Singer who screams in
the songs. You can tell he puts all his energy and effort into every song)
LP gained publicity at their first gig in a popular L.A Club called The Whiskey After
their amazing performance Warner Bros.Records signed them a deal & LP has been
tearing up musical charts ever since 1996.
I bought this album because I loved Crawling & In The End.I figured if I liked two songs from them that I may as well buy their cd & check out the rest of their work.
The cd consists of 12 well done tracks.Whenever I have bought cds I usually never enjoy EVERY song on 1 cd but on this cd I thoroughly love every song.
Each member put 100% in the lyrics, the sound, the way it was put together & that is
what makes it the best. The songs are dripping with energy & life. The sound is deep/dark.
Track 1: Papercut I like this song because I love how Mike Shinoda raps.He has a
beautiful voice & raps very quickly.I love the chorus that Chester Bennington belts out, Its like Im paranoid lookin over my back/Its like a whirlwind inside of my head/Its like I cant stop what Im hearing within/Its like the face inside is right beneath my skin.Chester possesses an amazing voice that reaches into your soul when you hear it.His voice is full of emotion.I also like the whispering parts on the song. There is something seductive about hearing him whisper-& lastly I love the part that begins at 2:5 seconds where they sing The sun goes down/ I feel the light betray meBefore that part the song is full of pent up energy just waiting to be released, its almost like youre holding your breath the entire time until that 2:5 second mark where you can sigh out The sun goes down
Track 2: One Step Closer at the present totally speaks to me & my relationship with my mother.Very harsh-very frustrated-like how I have been feeling lately.I like the lines Everything you say to me/Takes me one step closer to the edge/& Im about to break/I need a little room to breatheAt one point or another, you have been in a situation where someone is driving you crazy & wont leave you alone. They could be constantly harassing you about something & you just want to sing those frustrated lines to them & when they dont get it & wont stop you just want to shout Chesters famous line SHUT UP WHEN IM TALKING TO YOU
Track 6: Runaway started off slow for me.Usually within those first few seconds of a song I can tell if I like or hate it.I didnt like the first few seconds of Runaway Its was okay but the sound didnt grab me.What totally grabbed me was Mikes first part sayingThey point the finger at me again/You point the finger at me again&Chester breaking into the chorus of I wanna run away/Never say good-bye/I wanna know the truth/Instead of wondering why/I wanna know the answers/No more lies/I wanna shut thedoor/And open up my mind. The sound of the song & how the chorus is sung is completely enthralling. My next favorite part begins at 1:54 seconds with the instruments in the song leading up to Chester saying quietly, Im gonna run away& he puts all this force, strength & loudness into AND NEVER SAY GOODBYE& he continues singing the next few lines like that. Very powerful.
Track 7: By Myself immediately follows Runaway & they did a great transitional job.
You finish one song, & there is hardly time for a pause when By Myself begins. I like
how this song was sung. Mike has more lines than the last tracks & he does an amazing job. My favorite lines are Do I trust some & get fooled by phoniness/Or do I trustnobody & live in loneliness?/Because I cant hold on/When Im stretched so thin/I make the right moves but Im lost within/I put on my daily facade but then/I just end up getting hurt again/By myself? Once again, GREAT https://lyrics. How do these guys do it? I again relate to these lyrics because of my situation with my ex and all the stuff I went through.
Track 8: In The End probably one of the most popular songs from the Hybrid Theory
cd. I love this song. I love how its written, how its sung & how it sounds. This song to
me is about dying. You can do all you can do it life, whether good things or bad things,
you can try & succeed or you can just shirk life off but in the end everyone is going to die. Time is a valuable thing. As that clock ticks, it is ticking away our lives. I tried so
hard/And got so far/But in the end/It doesnt even matter/I had to fall/And lose it all/But in the end/It doesnt even matter Amazing. Another part I liked in this song was at 2:10 seconds when Chester sings, I put my trust in you/Pushed as far as I can go/& for all this/Theres only one thing you should know The way he sings this is very open..very deep. I feel as though he is singing these lines with his soul open to us. He isnt harsh or screaming like he usually does, instead he is showing us this weaker side, this more innocent openness about him, like he could get hurt by opening up but hes risking it, hes taking the chance to show us hes trusting. At 2:28 seconds Chester bursts out forcefully & with frustration I put my trust in you/Pushed as far as I can go & continues with the chorus..but instead of the quieter singing he had just showed at 2:10 seconds he shows us even more how hes at his wits end & frustrated & put his trust-in you
Track 9: A Place For My Head starts off with a catchy little guitar chord & embraces us with drums & scratches. I like how Mike raps in this one. Very fast, very methodic, very appealing. Great words/great singing. My favorite part is at 1:48 seconds when Chester shows us (yet another) open singing side. This part is totally seducing & appealing. He isnt screaming..he is singing in the raw. Its almost disturbing how well he sings it. All I can describe it is RAW. He whispers & emotionally sings, You try to take the best of me/Go away/You try to take the best of me/Go way/You try to take the best of me/? then at 2:2 seconds he shouts, you can almost see him pushing someone, GO AWAY!! Its amazing how they were able to catch all that rawness Track 12: Pushing Me Away is the last song on the album but its totally worth having it as the last song...they finished their album with a great song.I really love this song, the sound, the beat, & I totally love the words of this song.Another great LP hit.At 14 seconds the song breaks into this loudness of drums/guitars & immediately roped me in.I love every line in this song.I dont want to copy down ALL the lines from this song since this review is already REALLY long but just look up the words or listen to the song & then youll see why I love this song.Ive lied/To you/The same way that I always do/ This is/The last smile/That Ill fake for the sake of being with you.Very personal lyrics that I think we can all relate & understand. Why I never walked away/Why I played myself this way/Now I see your testing me pushes me away
