Warangal

Since there is no category for the town of Warangal, though of writing it here as Warangal is close enough to Hyderabad to be called as excursion. Visit to Warangal could be performed in a single day and if you have your own vehicle, then its far more easier.

I went there in the month of August on bike (Bullet thunderbird) with my friend and colleague. It was a memorable trip as we enjoyed the drive, the rain-soaked green landscape and the destination. ’’Warangal’’ is around 140 km from Hyderabad. The road to Warangal is excellent even after deluge in monsoon, not much traffic and great views of green landscape and rocky hills. There is a village 50 km before Waranagal called ’’Pembarthy’’ which is famous for brass artifacts though we did not stop here. Warangal is one of three adjacent towns ’’Hanumkonda’’, ’’Kazipet’’ and ’’Warangal’’ so on the highway milestones you will only see ’’Hanumkonda’’ written, so don’t worry. ’’Warangal’’ and adjacent locations were ruled by ’’Kakatiyan’’ dynasty whose architecture is the main attaction of the town like Warangal Fort and ’’Thiusand Pillared temple’’.

We first went to Warangal fort for which you will have to cross entire town. The fort is spread is large area but its not much builtup. There is a park and a small hill with adjacent lake inside the fort which is the main attraction here. Just nearby are some remains of ’’Kakatiyan’’ architecture just spread across including the famous stone arch structure which looks like a gate. The views from the hill in the park are very good. ’’Thousand pillared tample’’ indeed has lot of pillars but complex itself is not very big and surruonded by residential colony. Some part of the temple was closed for renovation. It has just one main sanctum-sanctorum so won’t take much time to have ’’darshan’’. After that we were supposed to find a place to eat. Since the town is not very tourist-prone so don’t expect must in terms of eating options. We went to probably the best eating place called Ashoka hotel which has 2-3 restaurants for various cuisines. If one wishes then this could be the best option to stay as well. Food was sumptuous and cheap.

The drive back was equally good and clicked lots of photos. One need to go for this excursion only in suitable period of monsoon or winters. Summers here are killing.

Hope this review is useful for some.
