Getz 1.3 GLX - 2500km report
Trust this review will be helpful to you. Also refer to my previous report for more details. I might have included few main things here again though for a better overall picture.
Positives:
Its been a great experience overall. Great space inside, silent cabin, big boot(for a hatchback), good power(but could have been a little better), smooth clutch, good braking(ABS pitches in I believe), comfy seats(reclining rear seat is real good) & a very efficient AC.
Handling is pretty good(though some of the reviews were critical about it). You can negotiate curves at a reasonable speed and there is very little body roll. No problems at all for me in this quarter.
Steering is very precise at high speeds in the highways. Thanks to the hydraulic steering. But at low speeds it is not very light as in other cars in this class having EPS.
Great suspension, very pliant even fully loaded and driven at 100 in reasonably good roads. Went over a bumper at 60(didnt see it) but the car just took it beautifully in its stride.
Reasonable mileage(yes this comes in the+ve list for me). I get consistently 10 to 11 overall(75% city+ 25% highways, with AC on most of the times).
Lot of safety features, stiff modern Chassis, crumple zones, side impact beams, collapsible steering, ABS(no Airbags), NCAP 4/5 rating. Also stuff like rear defogger, rear wash wipe, HMSL, excellent visibility on all sides and fog lamps add to safety.
Comfort levels are very high when you ride in this car. Lot of storage spaces too.
Overall, a very capable hatchback from Hyundai. Have driven the car to a max of 110km, and its rock solid, with the engine rpm hovering around 3000rpm. At 80, the engine is at a relaxed 2200rpm.
Problems:
Anti-pinch feature for power windows would have been good. Now we got to be careful especially with kids inside.
The A-pillar is quite thick, so we got to watch out for oncoming traffic during long right turns.
Ocassional door open problems with the central locking. Got it rectified.
Ocassionally there is a screeching noise from inside the bonnet(the fan belt, I presume) whenever I start the car. Got this rectified during the first service, but it persists.
There is a slight shake in the steering when you go beyond 100kmph, and I was told that this is because of wheel balancing. So got to do that next.
Steering becomes very hard sometimes at low speeds. Got it checked but no improvements.
The ride comfort which is so good at medium and high speeds, is a bit disappointing at low speeds over bad roads. Passengers are tossed a bit laterally.
Boot space could be further increased if we fix the spare wheel on the back door(might also look sportier from the rear), but dont know who can do it.
So thats it! Getz is good overall, no doubt about it. Few areas for improvement, though. But still a fantastic family car.
