Getz Prime 1.3 vs Swift and UVA

Bought a Getz Prime 1.3 a month back. I did so after a lot of research so I would like to share the reasons for choosing this car. Basically, once I decided on buying a car of this segment, the search narrowed down to Maruti Swift, Chevrolet UVA and Getz Prime. I found that Maruti Swift scores over the others in most technical parameters like engine power, mileage etc. but is unfortunately cramped for space. My height is 5’10’ and I found the leg space for the driver left a lot to be desired. In addition, if one pulled the driver’s seat back to get more space, the leg space for the rear passengers is pathetic. Their knees would be pushed into the back of the driver’s seat. In fact, a Maruti 800 has more leg space than Swift. For a car that looks big from outside, it is a big disappointment inside. An adjustable steering may have helped its cause to some extent, but is not available. What a pity, for the Swift is a great car otherwise!

Coming to Chevrolet UVA, I found it underpowered for its weight. The least it needed was a 1300 cc engine. The lack of power shows. The driving comfort, steering position, while adequate, is not too great. The back seats though are the best any car has. But then, I was more concerned with my own driving pleasure rather than the passengers at the rear!

Coming to Getz Prime, I immediately fell for it the moment I drove it! The space inside was like a breath of fresh air. The interior space, the elegant dashboard gives it a look of a sedan from inside. The positioning of the steering is also very comfortable. I have been driving the car now for one month and love every minute of it. The only concern is mileage(it is giving 10.5 Kms/L in city driving conditions). Understandably, the mileage is better if one opts for the 1.1 variant of Getz Prime, but then one would have to live with the underpowered engine.
