4 Years, 45000kms later -
Im still happy with my decision to buy the Getz. Its still smooth, with very little maintenance except for the regular stuff. Only major expenses have been when Bangalores traffic gives my car bumps and scratches. One of the seats has started creaking a bit when I go on bumps. Other than that, everything is great. But I hear that Hyundai is soon stopping production of the Getz... May be its time for an i20? Hold on, that should be another review :-)
1 Year has gone by, three services are done and my Getz has eaten 10, 650 kms of highway and Bangalore roads. I have done three trips to Chennai, and one trip to Mysore. I have touched a top speed of 145kmph. So I guess its time to re-visit my review.
But guess what, mostly my original review stands good - still. The engine, gears, steering etc are still refined and smooth. The ride is still comfortable. I am yet to face any major problems with her.
Engine: Very refined and smooth.
Power: At 82BHP, this is quite powerful for its size and weight.
Acceleration is good, if not mind blowing.
Gear shifts: Are precise and slick.
Handling - in city: Wonderful. Its a breeze to take it around the city.
Handling - highways: At high speeds (100kmph+) the soft suspension makes you jittery, especially if the road is uneven or in turns. Not good enough. Updated on 11/13/06 - I have become used to this and can now reach 130 easily. Have touched 145kmph max.
Braking: Good enough, even without the ABS.
Space: Awesome for a car this small. Especially the boot space, the split folding rear seats. Comfort: Amazing, even in the rear seats. Once we brought my friends mom who has a bad back, lying on the rear seat, and it was really comfortable for her.
Mileage: 12kmpl in city with occassional use of A/C.
One more minus - it can do with better lights.
In all, I would definitely recommend it, for any one who cannot afford the low mileages of the likes of Ford Ikon, Opel Corsa and Hyundai Accent.

The other problem that I faced is that the "FREE" speakers given by my dealer Advaith Hyundai have conked off. I found that they are mismatched to the Sony XPlod they have fitted and there is some loose contacts. So the speakers play on and off. Need to change speakers soon. But then again, this has nothing to do with the car, only the shoddy work/freebies that the dealer threw in.
If you are buying the car, go for cash reduction instead of free audio system. Get the audio system yourself and get it professionally installed - Sony or Blaupunkt or whatever.
Get Halogen lights fitted if you are going to drive extensively on highways in nights.
Happy driving.
