I purchased Hyundai i10 Magna 1.1 LPG six months back. My intention behind purchasing an LPG model was to save on fuel cost as auto LPG is cheaper than petrol
But to my utter dismay and after repeated observations, I found that both the fuels give you the same value for money....
Let me explain how I arrived at the inference from my observations... its simple.. just test it.
So Test 1, I filled petrol worth Rs.500 (comes to around 6.6 liters as petrol price is Rs.76/lit currently in Pune) exactly after fuel indicator showed reserve point and then measured the distance driven till the next reserve point, the mileage driven was 99 km... next in Test 2, I filled auto LPG worth Rs.500(10 liters as LPG price is Rs.50/lit) ... same procedure.. and the reading was 100 km.
From my test statistics given above i.e., fuel costs and mileage driven, .. the real-time on-road mileage worked out to be: Petrol - 15 km/lit; Auto LPG - 10 km/lit.
I run the tests over and over again in city and highway conditions and the readings were consistent with + - 1-2km.
Therefore I would like to **signal** all those who are looking for LPG models especially i10, not to go for it, its just waste for money (you are investing Rs.30-50k extra and 25-30kg of extra weight in your boot space).
You might be wondering if i10 LPG does not provide you extra value for money, are Hyundai people gone mad to market this model, .. my answer would be ... its purely, marketing gimmicks to extend their product line and product depth and expand their market share over the competition.
