My review is based on my personal experience with Hyundai i20 pertol magna model. I took delivery of my i20 on August 20, 2010 and now the car is with Hyundai dealer to "rectify" strange noise emitting from gear box / engine.
Problem Description / Steps to reproduce the noise
Start the engine.
Turn on the A/C in Auto mode say at 24 degree C
Depress clutch and put the car in reverse gear
Take the gear to neutral position and release clutch
.... and there is the "strange" loud vibrating noise coming from engine compartment.
So friends, I spent hard earned money to buy "so called" best of the breed car, and with-in just 2 months this manufacturing defect is noticed.
Now the concerns I have
Yesterday evening i.e, October 23, 2010 dealer informed that he has taken out the entire gear box to "find" the problem. If problem is not found hell proceed to open "other things". i.e., in this advanced age of technology, Hyundai does not have enough sensors to identify the root cause of the problem without performing open heart surgery
It remains to be seen, if Hyundai will provide the Root Cause Anaylis and detailed report of corrective action taken or not. Service advisor at dealer has told me me that they do not provide anydetail in writing.
So, friends, you can understand my situation now ............
Please wish me luck that dealer is able to identify the issue and fix the opened heart components properly which you know most of the times theyll forget to put washers/nuts back in many places.
Hope Hyundai does some improvement in this area and fixes the problem for once and all in my car.
Ive also registered the complaint in Hyundai call centre and the complaint ID is 1-38614681
Update: 30-Oct-2010
My i20 is lying with dealer for 1 week now.
I called Hyundai complaint call center many times, but Hyundai does not seem to bother
Open heart surgery of gear box is performed by dealer and he says they can replace only O-ring and one pin
He agrees the fitting of gear box in the factory line can not be matched with fitting in workshop
Hyundai/Dealer has not given the root cause analysis yet
Dealer has told today that he will forward the request to replace the gear box to Hyundai
I am VERY UN SATISFIED with Hyundai i20
Update: 31-Oct-2010
Another dealers service manager at Mumbai told me similar problem is there with Hyundai i10 . They have replaced a spring in gear box of many i10 within few days after delivery. BUT he told me that they do not tell customers, that gear box is opened.
Update: 14 -Nov-2010
Hyundai has not been able to fix the problem. My 2 month new or old Hyundai i20 Magna problem car is in dealer workshop since 23rd october 2010 with manufacturing defect. Now they say some part is being obtained from korea.
Friends, trust me, Hyundai is maintaining absoute silence on providing the technical details of the problem. I ve sent many mails to Hyundai asking details, but they do not revert provinding any details.
Warm Regards,
Vinod
