I shifted to my new home and had to commute atleast 15 kms to my office.I started looking for a car from March. I first fixed my budget and decided to go for a car in the 4 lac range. The cars I considered are
Hyundai Santro Xing
Wagon R
Tata Indica
Alto
Maruti 800
I read thro hundreds of reviews on all cars talked with the actual owners in my office. I eliminated Maruti 800 as it was too cramped and Alto for similar reasons. So the tight fight was between the top 3 in my List. Some how Tata Indica didnt fascinate me as there are a horendous no of cabs and the problems pointed in the internet regarding the service and decided to stay off trouble.
I must say I was really confused on whether to take Santro or go with Wagon R. Both were in the same price range and offered pretty much similar features. I took a test drive of both the vehicles. I was amazed with the ease of driving in Santro. The negative I would point out is the rubbery gears in the Wagon R. Both the tall boy design made entering and leaving the car easy.
The AC was really good in Santro. The back seat of Wagon R supports 2 people but in Santro you can accomodate 3 easily. The free insurance offer was same in both the cars. Look wise I would rate Santro much higher than the rectangular wagon R. I took the silver colour XG variant and have driven 800 kms. Its a real pleasure to commute I enjoy my car the most.
One thing be careful when you bargain with the dealers and preferably take your accessories outside its cheaper and you have lots of choice.
