In approx Rs. 20 Lakhs (on road price), Hundai Terracan is really the fastest diesel SUV in india under Rs 40 lakhs. Its only competitors start from the range of Rs 40 lakhs, and they are Pajero, Parado and M-Class.
Especially after modifications to it in July 2004, it has become a better vehicle.
Now, Its 164 bhp (previously it was 149 bhp), (a 2.9 litre CRDI) now its got 255/75 R16 beautiful alloys (previously they were 235/75 R15.
In the performance figures, you could be thinking that Nissan X-Trail and coming Hyundai Tucson are nearby which are little bit cheaper than this. But folks, they are kids in comparison to these Heavy Duty Big size SUVs.
Honda CRV, Grand Vitara are in petrol and they are kids too.
While under Rs 35 Lakhs, the options in BIG 4x4 SUVs are only Ford Endeavour, Tata Safari , this Terracan and that Indian Pajero from old 70s (LOL).
Now it goes 0-100 km/hr in about 11.5 seconds and it gives a nice fuel average of 13-14 kmpl. Both these figures are very nice for a 2150 kg heavy SUV.
Its Suspension is also on the softer side and seats are extra comfortable. + Its got 4 wheel Disc brakes to stop at even high speeds.
The ground clearance is also great at 215 mm, and you can fill 75 litres of fuel in its fuel tank.
Length= 4710 mm, Width= 1860 mm, Height= 1790 mm.
Because, its Width/height ratio is more than 1 so its looks stable too.
And its long nose looks safe also.
If you had seen the white Terracan in 2004s Delhi AutoExpo which was fully loaded with all its accessories like BullGuard etc., it was looking terrific there.
But But But, If you see it on the road , it doesnt attract your eyes like its sister younger Tucson.
Most the people say that they mistook it as a Scorpio while it was on the road, but when they saw it from near, then they realised that its some Hyundai Vehicle.
Yeah, In our country, Hyundai doesnt has good reputation like Mercedes , Parado or Pajero... so I have seen many guys in my city who have bought Indian Mitsubishi pajero for Rs 22 Lakhs for their status symbol instead of a good value for money Terracan.
Like other Hyundais its also got a lot of accessories and a long equipment list including ABS, Twin Airbags, and other you can expect in this price range...
So, This is a very Good offroader too, where you have options of low gear ratio also where it will climb the hills even when you leave the gas paddle off. I mean, Its engine is so torqy @ 34 kgm that in low gear it becomes a crane.
- Its very comfortable too and has good performance also.
So, if you are looking for a good SUV in this price range, this is for you.
But If you want only the Looks (Eye Catching), then go for cheaper Ford Endeavour, which has better handling than this terracan, but its not so much comfortable( as thats got Leaf Spring on rear) and a lower powerful engine of just 110 bhp, which you can even get in a mahindra scorpio.
It looks great in White and Black Colours.
