I have owned a Verna VTVT 1.6 Petrol for a little over one year, during which I have driven it almost 15000 kms. The car handles itself very well in the city and is a real beauty on the highway. I have driven it from Mumbai to Nashik and back once and I also drive it on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway at least once a month(round trip 320 kms) and I am pleased as punch while driving this car. Climbing hills and overtaking is also very easy on account of its great power -to-weight ratio.Once I have reached 150 kmph on the open expressway but have not dared to go further. I am sure that the car can do even better if pushed.
My real concern is about the fuel consumption. Since the purchase I have followed the Owners Manual to the letter in terms of running the car at not more that 60 kmph during the first three months, maintaining correct tyre pressure, carrying out all the oil change and servicing exactly as laid down etc etc.I have also filled the tyres with Nitrogen in order to avoid overheating on long trips.
Despite all this I have never got more than 7.5 kms per litre(with AC on) in the city( South Mumbai) where I travel about 30 kms daily. On the expressway, the average(with AC on) varies between 10.5 to 12.5. I am an experienced driver and I drive at an AVERAGE speed of 80-100 on the highway. Fuel consumption is always measured from full tank to full tank.
Upon informing the Hyundai Plaza, near Cotton Green, Mumbai where the car was serviced last month(Last Free Service), I received no satisfactory reply / action to redress the situation.
Can any one please suggest a workaround?
Also I would like to know the experience of other Verna petrol VTVT owners.
