Hyundai Verna

Hyundai had an initial plan to launch Verna as Accent Verna to replace Accent Viva. Due to marketing issues, they called it just Verna. Looks are conservative and not so futuristic. Verna has got a rounded body with a bigger grille compared to an Accent.

Verna comes with 1.5 ltr CRDi engine. 4 cylinder engine with 4 valves in each cylinder delivering 110bhp.

Riding comfort is comparable with a petrol car. At a higher RPM it delivers good power and you can really feel the horses inside a Verna…but at a low RPM- typical condition inside city- you will realize it has got a diesel engine! Engine is very silent from both inside and outside the car and vibrations are not felt. I was using 2nd and 3rd gear to zoom and there was not much delay in the engine response. Overtaking on highways will be an easy job. Headlights seems to be not so focused. Braking was efficient even on a wet surface. Suspension has to be little more refined. 300+ ltr of boot space would be enough for an Indian family. This CRDI engine is ideal for highway cruising and expected to be fuel efficient.

Hope Hyundai will fix the small bugs and come out with a patch release soon. A price correction is also needed because a fully loaded Elantra CRDi is priced slightly above Rs 100, 000/- more than a no frills Verna. Also, Ford Fiesta is offered at a lower price with more features. Hyundai post sales service is excellent.

What will happen to Accent and Accent Viva CRDI ?

Accent will continue as an entry level sedan with 1.5ltr petrol engine...Accent GLE competing with Ikon Flair and Esteem.

Accent Viva CRDi production is terminated and the much awaited Getz Diesel will have this 3 cylinder engine.
