I LOVE SAM AND YOU WILL TOO

’’I Am Sam’’ was Directed by Jessie Nelson and released in 2001.

THE STARS:

’’Sean Penn, Michelle Pfeiffer, Dakota Fanning and Laura Dern.’’

MY REVIEW:

Before the film begins he has made a friend with a homeless Woman. For some reason they have sex and she gets pregnant. The Movie begins she is delivering her baby.

When the baby is born a nurse asks Sam the Baby’s name and he says, ’’Lucy Diamond Dawson’’, (one of the Beatle’s songs).

We see them leaving the Hospital together. The Mother hands Lucy to him and walks aways.

He has an Apartment, his Child and a job at Starbucks

and he feels that with the help of his friends he can take care of Lucy.

Sam knows the basics of taking care of a baby. Sam does not ’’do well’’ in unfamiliar places or with new things.

He knows he must by baby formula, blankets, diapers, baby power and cloths. He takes Lucy with him to the Store to buy them and this is quite a chore for him. He keeps dropping things. He does manage to buy what Lucy needs and go back to his Apartment.

He has a neighbor named Annie who is a recluse. She hasn’t left her Apartment in at least twenty years. She agrees to help Sam baby-sit Lucy and while she is doing this she teaches her how to play the piano.

Sam can’t read a lot but he has memorized a Dr. Seuss book called “Green Eggs And Ham”. Every night they read it together.

When Lucy starts School she sees that the other Children have Fathers quite different from hers. At first she pretends he is the same.

She begins to have problems at School. Lucy is so smart she realizes that soon she will be smarter than her Father will so she decides to stop learning anything.

The School calls Sam and tells him about this. He convinces her that he wants her to learn and be as smart as she can be.

The Children begin to make fun of her because her Father is retarded. She tells her them that she is adopted.

Everything comes to a head on the day that Sam is giving Lucy a surprise 7th Birthday Party. One of her Friends tell Sam that Lucy said that she was adopted. Lucy is walking through the door at the time and overhears this. She turns around and runs away.

The Police find her and they put her in foster care at the home run by a Lady named Rand-. They tell Sam he must find a Lawyer if he wants to try to get her back.

Sam and his Friends, (who also have disabilities), meet at the Coffee Shop that they always go to. They decide that Sam must get a ’’high priced Lawyer’’ or else he won’t get Lucy back.

They look at the Yellow Pages of the Telephone Book. They decided that the Lawyer with the biggest Ad would be the best Lawyer.

Sam goes to see her. She tries to brush him off. He tells her he is willing to pay but she still insists she is too busy but might have a Friend who would be willing to take his Case. He leaves his phone number with her Secretary and goes away.

Later that evening there is a celebration party in the Board Room of her Firm. She is about to leave when Sam walks in and asks her if she found her Friend for him yet.

She turns around and everyone at the party is laughing because they knew she lied to Sam and she would never take a pro-bono Case.

She is so embarrassed she tells Sam that he misunderstood her and she was his Lawyer.

Along the way Sam learns that she is sad about her Husband, (who is cheating on her) and her Son who won’t listen to her and does naughty things to get attention.

He likes Rita so much that he decided to give her some advice. He tells her she must leave her Husband and spend more time with her Son. Rita is amazed that Sam’s advice is practical.

At first Lucy is happy living with a ’’real family’’.

One day Rand- and Lucy are painting a picture in the front yard when Sam drops by to see Lucy. Sam doesn’t stop because he thinks that Lucy is better off without him.

Lucy sees Sam leave and is very upset. The next time they meet she tells him that she is very agree with him for doing this.

Rand- and her Husband decide they would like to adopt Lucy. This means they will be in Court for a very long time.

And this is the end of my tale because I never tell the ending of a movie.

*All of the songs in this film are the Beatles songs.

SOME THOUGHTS:

*Please note that the ’’-’’ is an ’’i’’ as MS would not allow that word in this review.

I highly recommend you rent the Video.
