Must read for the youth

I came across this book in my office library around 2 years back. Someone had bought it and had donated the book to the library. I picked up the book just because it was written by Kiran Bedi.

Throughout her life, Kiran has dared to swim against the current and explored new grounds. This book deals with what makes Kiran Bedi say ’’I dare !’’. Initial few chapters of the book describe her early career years. The book then progresses to a bit of her personal life [wedding, her real life roles etc]. It then has a couple of chapters on her dynamic role in Delhi, Goa, North East.

The book describes the Lawyer’s strike against Kiran Bedi, her strong stances against various politicians and her strong ways of handling situations. She is a dare-devil who accepts the challenges this corrupt system throws at her. There is no wonder then that lakhs of women in India want to be like Kiran Bedi — she serves as a role model to them. She deserves every word of praise which has been showered upon her.

Later chapters describe her novel ways of working. The book also describes the laudable work done by her for betterment of prisons and prisoners, specially the Tihar jail. Tihar is considered as her Karmabhoomi. No wonder she was chosen for the Magsasay Award in 1994 [pardon the spelling, if it is wrong].

Overall, the book has a very good flow. It makes an interesting reading while maintaining its neutrality. It has several colour snaps as well as relevant clippings from press articles to support the storyline.

The author has ensured that the readers will finish the book in one-go once they start reading..... at least me and a couple of friends did that.
