A good thread, a good star, partially ok heroine and some hit songs, does that make a good film? My answer is no. If you disagree, check I Hate Love Stories and look forward to have your say on that.
Spoiler Warning: Jay (Imran Khan) is an assistant to a film director who makes superhit luv stories. Jay hate luv stories. He finds no meaning in it. Simran (Sonam Kapoor) is the art director of the movie Pyaar Pyaar Pyaar, the directors new luv out. The crazy director makes Jay as assistant to Simran now probably to get rid of him. Simran love luv stories where Jay does not. Simran have a boyfriend which Jay finds not good in his first look. Jay tries to discourage Simran and luv begins, ends and patch up. Luv begins, ends and patch up and luv begins and ends and film ends and spoiler warning ends.
First the plus points of the film. Songs are the best part of it. Almost all of them maintain a quality. No doubt. Every 15 minutes or so, a song peep in and is good to listen and some times it is good to see on screen as well. Choreography of some songs are good, some ok and others not so ok choreography. Bin Tere, Sadka Kiya, I hate Love stories, Jab Mila Tu....
Imran Khan, the actor keeps his cool and the less integrated character well fits the actor. Sonam Kapoor, where she has to remain jolly on screen is a treat to watch. (Sadly, it is not so when she has to emote other emotions). Other actors in the movie did their roles quite ok.
The romance flavour is another plus for the film, where it is one emotion which always has a soft corner in every viewer, even if people are never in luv. Comedy works but in lesser degree.
Cinematography of the film is ok.
Now to the minuses of the film:
The film failed in the plot development stage itself. The story is not developed from a comparatively good thread and the screen play didnt help any way to improve it as well. Once the characters are established, the story misses direction and fails to starts, fails to pick up and fails to end properly. When it approaches with hesitance there had no novelty, no drama or emotion. The movie also jumps from one genre to other, from a romantic movie to romantic comedy to satire at times and at the end no genre prevails. Also, the attempt to show the story of PPP as similar to the one of the assistants didnt help either.
The director succeed in capturing some fine scenes from the cast, sadly those were few. Otherwise he didnt succeed in using the best of actors on the one hand and failed to cover up the weaknesses of them on the other.
Editing is sleepy. Back ground scores were a torture.
Overall, the movie disappoints.
I Hate Luv Stories may worth a once time watch for the music, Imran Khan, half a Sonam Kapoor and the romance flavour. For anybody who looks for excellent or good love stories, they may keep replaying the old DVDs once again till another love story, not LUV story, which I hate.
My Rating: 2.25 stars
