I am an ex-IBM employee. I know in and out of this company. So lets start with company profile. IBM needs no introduction amongst IT companies or BPO, KPO division. I am going to talk about the BPO division more than other wings of the company. The only good thing I could notice while working there was the stability of the job. There no body is going to ask to leave the company unless you are really a jackass. The overall management is average and it has lack of dynamic leadership.
Interviews
A very long process of interview makes it horrible for the new candidates. If you are going to give the interview there then I will suggest you to drop all the scheduled works for that day because it will not take less than 7-8 hours to complete the whole process. Most of the time you sit and wait. It only contains a Voice and Accent round and an Ops round but lots of formalities. If you really want to see a shear waste of time then it is a good example.
Induction
If luckily you get through the interview process then dont be too happy. Induction again is a long and lengthy process. Lots of paperwork and filling up lots of forms summarise the induction. Once you are done then getting transport for the day is a real challenge because sometimes the induction is stretched to late at night.
Orientation
Honestly nothing much to cheer about it as well. Long useless speeches and messed up HRs would try their level best to ruin the day. HRs would leave you no choice but to yawn and think about the employment again.
Benefits
If you talk about benefits then I have nothing to tell you which can really encourage you. Besides the medical & life insurance which is provided by pretty much all the companies there are no other benefits.
Salary
They have different salary bracket for different profile. But still you have to be clever in negotiation because HRs there are more like a shopkeeper. They bragain like they are selling cloths and they count each day of your experience. I wonder if they would start counting hours as well in a few days. Obviously IBM is not a paymaster, it has average scale and that too is accessible only if you manage to get through cunning HRs.
Management
As I mentioned that apart from a very few there is no dynamic personalities or leadership which can encourage you to do something. They are biased, unorganized and lack people managing skills.
Growth
If you are a new employee then you will not have any chances of promotion until you complete 1 and half years there. And even after completing time period and despite of having potential you should be in the good books of your TL. If you are not.then you should not think about the promotion but for a new company if you want growth
Shifts
10 hours of shift which includes 1 hour of break sometimes becomes too much to handle. All the calling profiles have back to back calling and most of the processes have no fixed breaks. It leaves you on the mercy of your TL for breaks. After pleading 30 times for the break and after all the favourites of TL complete their break.
Cafeteria
Do not eat there. Carry your own lunchbox thats my honest advise to all the guys.
Transport
The transport is only from 7pm to 7 am besides that time frame you are of your own. After completion of your shift you would like to reach home ASAP because you have just completed 10 hrs shift but you have to wait for 30 minutes or more to get a cab which will be flooded with your collegues. So if window glasses of vehicle is closed then you may start craving for the oxygen. They pick up you about 2 hours before your shift time starts, no matter even if you live couple of kilometers away from the company.
Conclusion
There are lot better companies which hire people. Unless you have only one option and thats IBM.dont join it. It sucks in there.
