I have had a very Horrible experience with IBM which after I got an offer and several confirmation calls just a week before my date of joining looks like cancelled my offer.
I "WAS" employed with a reputed MNC and was looking for a change and after a lot of pain (similar to the one mentioned in the previous reviews.. I will write abt it later), I got the offer letter with IBM which mentioned the DOJ and I confirmed the DOJ as per the requirements. Since I had an offer I resigned from my previous Job and since IBM was following up regularly, I fought for release with abt 45 day notice. During the period when I was on notice I was called atleast 3 times (once from HR, 2 times from projects I guess) and were talking as if I was part of IBM already.
then with about 7 days to my joining date suddenly on a Friday evening I received a two line mail from one generic IBM id, which said my offer is deferred indefinitely and the DOJ would be informed later without any reasons mentioned and without compensating for it in monetary terms. First It took me a while to digest it, on a Friday evening I cold have done nothing.. neither were any nos accessible nor the people, then wrote the mail to HR to find out whats the reason? I had also called up the HR on Monday morning, who like ever just did not know any thing, she said a letter has been sent and did not comment beyond that, I have not received any letters so far and am waiting for that.
in the mean time I completed the last day in previous company, who have refused to extend my last working date and now I am JOBLESS, neither can I go to IBM nor can I continue working with my previous co. and the worst part is I have huge EMIs to pay, my children’s school fees, all the credit card bills etc and IBM has left me high and dry. I met an old college friend of mine who is also facing the same problem, he said there are many such cases with IBM. I am currently searching for an immediate alternative, which is also hampered by holidays. Hope to get over this soon, from a position of strength I am reduced to a beggar.
I don’t know if I am eligible for this but I am planning to file a case on IBM for rocking my ship and nearly destroying my career and ask for the compensation for all the trauma and loss of productive hrs and all the hardships me and my entire family has to go through due to this.
Mean time to all the people thinking of IBM as an option , please be aware that IBM is not a reliable employer, even the legal offer made is not been honored. Also I have done my R&D and it looks they are on a firing spree worldwide now. Don’t be lured by the big salaries they are quoting. Any day the Indian companies have better work ethics. these american companies will always be selfish. You better stay off this useless, unreliable , selfish, company.
