One of my favourite movies. I?ve watched it as many times as Shah Rukh Khan has stuttered.
Summary
All the pre-historic animals are migrating ? the Ice Age is near! Sid
the sloth gets left behind due to napping, and when he sees Manfred the mammoth, he makes it a point to tag along. Manfred makes it clear from the first moment that he doesn?t want Sid around, but being the stupid sloth that he is, Sid follows him around like Shah Rukh Khan followed Juhi Chawla in Darr.
The movie switches to a pack of saber-toothed tigers who want to attack a human settlement for meat as they themselves have been killed off mostly for their skin (sounds somewhat like a revengeful Ekta serial, doesn?t it?). The attack takes place, but a woman escapes along with her baby. A tiger named Diego has to get the baby, so he runs after her. The woman sacrifices her life for the baby, who lands up with Manfred and Sid. Diego, who has to get the baby or be killed, persuades Manfred to let him go with them on the quest to return the baby to his relatives, who have moved far away. Will Manfred reveal his other side? Will Diego capture the baby or will he reform (like most of the people in the soaps)?
Quotes
?Sid: For a second there, I actually thought you were gonna eat me.
Diego: I don’t eat junk food.
Diego: Is its nose dry?
Sid: That means there’s something wrong with it.
Diego: Someone should lick it, just in case.
Characters
Manfred- the slow, sarcastic mammoth tries to be emotionless. Whenever an emotional moment comes, he shrugs it off. But there is something at the back of his mind?
Sid- Sid is shown to be stupid. He tags along whenever he finds a worthy bodyguard. He is cowardly and a show-off, but he is also kind and loving.
Diego- Diego is shown to be a vicious saber-tooth from the beginning, who wants to capture a baby for food as well as a large mammoth. But Is he really all that bad?
Saber-tooth squirrell- This creature is hilarious. But finally his passion for the nut freezes him in a block of ice.
Voices
Ray Romano .... Manfred (voice) - Romano does a good job of Manfred’s cool, pessimistic voice.
John Leguizamo .... Sid (voice) - Leguizamo lisps his way through the movie perfectly, just in the way Sid should be.
Denis Leary .... Diego (voice) - Leary is excellent as the low, snarling voice of Diego the saber-tooth Smilodon.
Facts
The baby’s name is Roshan.
When Manfred, Diego and Sid walk past the eerie UFO in ice, the baby does the vulcan hand salute!
Overall
A very funny movie. Watch it whenever you are bored, or if you just want to have a great time. Sorry for the short review. I had a longer one typed up, but my computer deleted it. Some of the jokes are sarcastic and some people might not get them. The effects are good and clear, and the storyline is original. Of course, a n animal immersed in ice for 20, 000 years will not melt and start to scamper around, but give it a watch sometime.
