Thousands of ICFAI students across the Country are in major trouble and still don’t know it.
ICFAI claims to be a “network” of universities established in Uttranchal, Sikkim, Tripura and Meghalya. With this they are running centres and campuses in Mumbai, New Delhi, Gurgaon, Kolkotta, Chennai and many other cities all over the Country.
The hitch is that they are NOT PERMITTED BY UGC to open campuses or centres outside the states where the Universities are established. See clause 3.3 in the UGC regulations for private universities. https://ugc.ac.in/policy/regulationspdf/establishment_maintenance.pdf
Also, ICFAI has set up a campus in Sri Lanka and are offering their degrees there through their university. Again they are not permitted to offer their degrees outside of the Country.
On talking to many students it is clear that they have all been suppressed into thinking that they will be getting valid and legal degrees. Also most faculty were not aware about the UGC regulations. Those who did ask the management were told to never discuss this point again.
Lives of thousands of students will be affected once it comes in the open that ICFAI is defrauding them.
There are many other things in ICFAI which are not above board.
ICFAI is offering B.Ed. and M.Ed degrees without approval from NCTE for which public notices were also brought out in the newspapers. Sadly the excessive advertising of ICFAI is still luring hundreds of desiring teachers who will never get jobs in schools.
ICFAI has had long legal battles with the CFA Institute in the USA but are still using the CFA trademark. They tell students of this cash-cow program that they cannot use the CFA word in the US and Canada. Technically in India they are not allowed to either and are relying on it that the CFA Institute will not be able to grab them in India.
The promoters of ICFAI have set up private ltd companies to offer financing and placement services. ICFAI pays fees to these companies for services offered, thereby enriching the management of ICFAI for providing services which normally are part of university responsibilities for which the students have paid their fees.
Plagiarism is sadly not a sin in our Country. Otherwise ICFAI would be in serious trouble for all the work they produce and sell.
