In the year 2002 I Finally had some money in hand, and I decided to by me a bike (Bullet Electra) I already had an existing account with ICICI and it was cool with all the usual crap and stuff. SO, when I decided to buy a bike... I just wanted to find out my options about financing for the bike...
TRUST ME, all it took was one phone call and ALL of my work was done and I got the delivery of my bike within 1.5 weeks!!! THEY TOOK CARE OF IT ALL, I didnt have to move my b.u.t.t at all!!! They sent people to collect my papers took care of RTO and all the other crap that goes into something like that, the people I dealt with were also VERY nice and polite.
That kinda service was a total stunner for me, I WAS REALLY IMPRESSED!!
HOWEVER it has been a downhill ride thereafter. The quality somehow slipped and things werent good anymore.
Here is why.
- I wanted to open a reccuring deposit acount, they come and take all that is required, and 1 week later Im following up with them asking what ever happened about it and they tell me it is being proccessed two days later I call the guy who collected my docs and he told me that there were certain problems and it would get done in the next 2 days... Nothing happened, I finally lost it and called and cancelled the cheque that I had given for the account. And thats that, I never got any reply! 
- I called for a homeloan, said the rep. will meet you in two days, when he didnt show up I immediately called up HDFC who were more responsive! I didnt even bother following up, when the rep guy called me 4 days later! I told him that you lost the deal, because you did not meet up on time! 
- I wanted to buy a car and wanted finance information, they were not equipped with proper information and failed to send me information that they said they would send, later after a reminder I somehow got it, but later when I wanted some more information about downpayment options I didnt get any reply ever! 
SO in THESE areas the bank is slipping in quality. And they really need to pull them socks up and get things tightened up! On the otherhand the general Helpline service is one of the best I have known and they have good efficient people standing by to help you out with any problem you may have with your account and such.
I still continue to bank with them, because Im not much of a fussy guy when it comes to banks so they are ok, and I would not say DO NOT BANK with ICICI, TRUST me they are SO much better than other small and government banks where officers tell you to go from one desk to another.
Its just that these Banks have set certain standards to which we have grown used to, I still remember the painful procedures of Cash Withdrawal and the chore of updating pass books when I used State Bank Of India.
Sadly though these banks are not doing good enough to keep their standards up and they really need to buckle up to a booming industry for home and automotive loans!
