When I read Kalpeshss’s review on ICICI Bank’s service I thought even I should share some of bitter experience of mine.
Since my previous company had opened a corporate account for me to transfer my salary to this account I got introduced to ICICI.
I got ICICI Credit card 2 years back on some campaign as a complimentary service. In which it was mentioned that an yearly subscription fee will be charged at the end of the year. That was supposed to be 750 bucks.... That card came to me as if ’maan ya na maan, mein thera mehmaan’. I welcomed it. I must have purchased goods worth 800 bucks. For that year I paid the subscription. After that since I was leaving out of India, I sent a form to cancel this card. I received no response.
To check the validity of this card now I asked my neighbourhood supermarket to swipe it for some amount and it showed invalid. I was happy that my cancellation request worked. And then I left India. After sometime in my monthly bank statements started reflecting my credit card number. Every month 100 bucks were getting deducted.
I started mailing ICICI since it was not worth calling from abroad. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 mails and then I received one real response (usually they send automatic reply for every mail you send) that my request is under process..but 100 bucks never stopped disappearing from my account. On an emergency I had to come back to India, during that time I went to ICICI Bank personally. They said it is not thier headache, I should contact the agent for credit cards in Mangalore ( My account is from Mangalore). I did. Agent said he can’t do much about it I should call up the call center. I did. I did and I did continuosly for 3 days 3 times a day. It was that same old ’bhajan’ of ICICI I heard.
I lost my temper over the agent who provided me this card. It was not his fault. Poor fellow! He gave me an email address again. I thought I should fight till I win. I came back to Dubai and I started my routine to mail with a gap of 7 days everytime. Finally I received a mail saying that they will refund Rs. 530 from my account. By then they had already deducted 750 bucks from my account. Now I didn’t know for what did I pay 220 bucks extra.
I thought for that moment I should shut my mouth and take what I have got!. Thought of discontinuing with this bank but in vain, I had put thorns on my own way.....I had taken some loan sometime back with ICICI and the repayment is going on. Inspite of me requesting them that I am willing to settle the whole amount at one shot!...No, they will not let me re-pay all the loan amount before the period of my loan. How funny!...Its my majboori to continue with ICICI now...alas!
