Today I had the misfortune to visit the bank at Salem branch. One of my friend had given me a personal cheque and I had to visit the bank to withdraw the money. Usually I avoid this bank like a skunk, but had no other go.
I had to wait for 1 hr 30 mts before my token was called. This is supposed to be a fully computerised bank. Guess what, there were hardly about 20 customers and this delay.
After all the wait the cheque was presented and the looked at me up and down as if I had come to rob his bank, before he started his WORK. So where is the id proof that you are so and so. ID was shown, he entered the cheque in the system and then the fun started. He wanted a Xerox copy of the ID proof attested. So what do I do. Go downstairs find a Xerox shop get the ID copied attest it and bring it back. This for a measly 10, 000 bucks. thank God he did want a copy my house documents notarised. This was the final straw, I just asked him to return he cheque as I was not interested in going through’ the whole stupid process.
My question is, okay the bank is yours and you can have any no of rules and regulations you wish however stupid they may be. But should you not have written in the notice board or wherever it is that you need a signed ID copy if you want to withdraw money. making a customer wait for hrs together and when he nears the counter you tell him of your moronic rules.
One thing for sure, I will never accept an ICICI cheque or recommend anyone to go there.
