ICICI bank is a bank thats literally confused with the way they work.
Their systems, transaction charges or service charge leveing mechanisms.. and interest calculation mechanisms, leave them in vast lands of customer problems.. and answering them hass been just another tell whatever comes up in the mind idealogy for them.
But its definitely a good bank.. as long as u dont have a problem.. Their systems/machines do things much better than them.
sometimes if an error occurs and u r charged twice for one payment.. or if the ATM says connection error and still the money is debited from ur account.. or if due to some mistake ur charged a surprising service/transaction charge on your credit / sometimes even debit card, ...
.... then... welcome to the world of confusion infinity banking.
They just handle things like numbers written on paper.. why bother whether its someones hard earned money or not.
Out of a few problems I had, I have one which they are not able to solve for a month now..
I used a ICICI-HP debit card in a HP club petrol bunk..in february 2003
According to the brochure, no transaction charges will be levied for this. and also its a debit card.. not a credit card.. so its my money immediately used.. not the banks, as in credit card transactions.
They debited 2% transaction charges from my account for the transaction. that too after a day. (probably they thought whether to debit or not..)
and when I questioned.. they said they will get back with information.
its almost a month now.. and they replied a week back that they are investigating the matter very seriously.
calling up their customer support brought me still more news.
the lady on the phone thought a little smarter and came up with an answer.. she asked me how many times.. and for how much amount I had used the card at the petrol bunk.. after thinking over, .. she said all transactions below 400 will carry a transaction charge of 2%. (becos I just told her that I have used it for a max of 349/- at a bunk)
i asked her if this information was in the brochure.. and she said yes...indeed.. and when asked where it is in the brochure (becos I was holding the brochure while calling.. and she pretended as if she was also having one.), she says its there in the brochure sir.. but I cant tell where it is exactly.. thanks for calling icici.. anything else
it seems like icici has come up with new ways of making money.. charge 2 or 3 rupees to those 1000s of customers now and then on transactions.. if some customer questions.. take it back.. else.. that goes to turnover of the bank.
but as I said.. as long as u dont have a problem .. its a very good bank.
They have a lot of service options and good features linked with accounts.. but their service clearly makes all these facilities difficult and use at your own risk kind of services.
