Beware of ICICI
This is a true story of a NRI who had visited Mumbai in Sep 2005. He tried to open ICICI NRE accounts for himself and his family totaling three accounts by paying 1000 $ on 19th Sep 2005 by completing all the bank procedures.
Money in cash was handed over to two of the in charge ladies who were on duty.
As per him those were opened successfully, since he had received check books, ATM CARDS and various PIN numbers.
After that he left India within few days. When he tried to make some transactions, he found his funds missing from all his three accounts. The money he deposited did not appear in bank records, he then tried to call Bank Manager Ms. Managala Shetty and Sandip Gupta, but no one was ready to talk or interested to reply.
There is no one in Bank who is ready to answer about the whereabouts of his money (in form of foreign currency) deposited for which he had some receipts which looked fake.
He believes that there is some scam or fraud going on in ICICI bank on the name of opening NRE accounts. The staff of the bank think that it is very easy to cheat Non-residents and easy to make money out of foreign accounts which involves foreign currency.
If everything was right then after 20 days he wouldn’t see zero balance in all the three accounts. It clearly show bank’s dishonesty. When he acted strong, these scammers started blaming on defect of his documents meant for opening accounts. This claim came after he started tracing and investigating his funds.
He felt lost as he didn’t knew what to do since no bank staff was responding to whereabouts of his money and sitting 10000 kms away, he felt strongly that he has been cheated by ICICI bank Andheri, Mumbai branch.
NRI’s need to be extra careful before opening account with ICICI BANK to protect their hard earned foreign currency.
I really dislike such banks who don’t care a damn for their customers and just act selfish and be money-minded.
