I had an ICICI card which I wanted to close becos they had new charges like card replacement fee even if the card is replaced after its validity.
I promptly called the customer care and told that I want to close the card and what is the balance. They told the balance and asked me to call 3 days after the Cheque is dropped at the atm. I had taken a balance transfer from SCB for Rs. 9000/- and paid personal cash for Rs. 2000/- .I told them that I will be travelling, they told me to drop a mail. I promptly sent a mail. Mean while they issued me with a fresh card valid for another 2 yrs and charges annual fee et al. I told them that I will not pay as I have already closed the card. Then they told me that the card is not closed as they have not sent out any letters to that effect. I told I dont care for your letters. They asked me to send a mail. They asked me to pay the minimum amount and they will waive off other charges. I told no way. and got the same type setted mail Then one fine day I got a call fm their office in Chennai when I was out of station. I told them I will come to chennai and meet them. When I called them after reaching Chennai, they told me that I still had to pay Rs. 9000/-. Luckly for me I had their statement with me which mentioned that I have paid 11, 000/-. I went to their office which is a place where they threaten defaulters and get the maximum. This gal came with a computer print out which showed that I had only paid Rs. 2000/-. I flashed this statement at her and told her to check her computer properly. She promised to look into it and get back to me. I told I care the damn and challenged them to reissue the card and told will make them roam like dogs behind me once I swipe it fully.
Then they sent me a statement which read that all the charges have been reversed.
Hence when you go for any credit cards, stick to your guns. Keep all records intact. so that your are not taken for a ride.
