Painful Phone Banking

This is only about the Phone banking service from ICICI and not anything else.


I have been using the Phone Banking service of ICICI bank for a few weeks now and find it to be a very painful experience. Firstly their menu options are very very long, which makes you have to wait for almost 2-3 minutes before all the options are listed and by that time you have mostly forgotten the options before.


I had deposited an overseas cheque and it hasn’t got credited yet. When I tried to find the status through phone banking, the agents kept transferring me between Bank officers, NRI departments (though my account is not a NRI account, since it was a dollar chq the officer felt I should talk to NRI department), Savings account (since mine was a savings account, the NRI phone department felt I should talk to savings department) and all of this took me 3-4 hours over a period of 2 days. And each of these officers kept askin g me the same set of questions about name, address, DOB etc before putting me on hold for executing some query and then transferring me to someone else who had the same set of questions for me :-).


The phone banking service is only good for non-interactive requests such as requesting cheque book, requesting statement and online account username etc. Anything more than this I guess is asking for too much.


Finally, I gave up and went in person to the branch where I deposited it to find the status.
