Well, you are not alone in your experience with ICICI. Check out my experiences with their various group companies.
ICICI Bank - I have interacted with these guys both professionally and personally. Professionally they are both a competitor and a customer to our company. They are one of the least professional companies I have found. We were trying to sell them a solution of ours, and were interacting with a division located in their BKC office.
One of their senior guys came over to Bangalore to look at the demo. He was extremely impressed with what he saw. I knew he would be because we knew their pain areas, and that our solution would solve those pains.
He went back to Bombay, and then the negotiations for pricing started. I was eager to get this sale through, and so got the price down to whatever levels they wanted. This was in Sep last year. After that there was radio silence for a few months. They then woke up in Jan this year, and wanted us to come to Bombay for another demo.
We agreed, and did a demo in their office. This time, we had to start from scratch, as most of the people in the demo had no idea why they were sitting there. We were assured that the deal would be closed very shortly. Again, radio silence followed for a few more months. One day I recd a call from the same guy, asking whether we can come down to Bombay again for a demo (for the same people who had witnessed it earlier). We said no.
Later there was a change of guard. The new guy asked for all the information that we had provided earlier. This guy too was shunted out, and a new guy came in. He also wanted the same information to be provided again. It has been few months now, and I haven’t heard from them. I know, one day, I will receive a call for a demo in their office once again. Pathetic guys.
ICICI Credit Card - I was approached by their branch in Bangalore for their Amex credit card (Green). I agreed, and one of their reps came the next day (surprising), and got all the documents from me. After this no news from them for couple of months! I then had to send them an email, and then I got the card by mail. God oh God, the name was printed wrong!
So, I sent them another email. I got a response after 15 days, asking me to fax the copy of the card to a number in Bombay. Why the bloody hell would I waste money to fax when the mistake was theirs. I tore the card, and told them the same thing. Again, after 15 days, I got an email asking me to courier the torn card to them!! Heights. Few days back I got a bill for my card for the renewal fees for next year. Man, these guys must be nuts.
ICICI Web Trade account - This is another episode of unprofessional behavior from them. I opened a web trade account in Jan this year. I got my savings account details by mail few days later. But, I never recd my web trade account details at all.
So, how was I to trade? After repeated follow up by email and phone I got the login mailer. When I tried logging in it said password is wrong!! So, I had to request for password reset. This took another few days. Finally, by about September this year I was able to log in and carry out transactions.
This is not just my experience with this group. Many of my friends have had bitter experiences. Still, the Bank zooms, both in terms of profits, as well as on the stock market. God knows how!!
