I have had/have accounts with 4 banks apart from ICICI and I needed to change my contact number. I did that easily with other banks but wow for ICICI it is a big deal even if you furnish all the details one needs to verify. I eventually had to walk down to the branch to get it updated.
Now I was trying to check my tax from the site (which is good though) and they had entered my PAN number incorrectly. Now, I call up customer care and again I was asked to visit a branch. I had a long talk with the person stating how it is not my fault and he even checked my document and realized that it was a mistake from their side. Still what he says is " I know sir its our fault but you will have to visit a branch".
I offered to send a mail from my registered ID and a scanned copy but NO. I went on asking what if the concerned person is not able to visit the branch (like gone out of country) and the reply was let me check sir and the same statement came back.
Having security is not bad but too much of it makes the life of customer miserable. If I do not have the debit card of the bank with me I cannot transfer the fund. I mean why have a login password then a transaction password and then you need the card to verify the numbers against the alphabet. I had such easy in doing all this with Citi, HDFC or even Standard Chartered but ICICI is in a league of it own.
Sadly, I have a salaried account in the bank and cannot close it for now. But when the day comes I would be more than happy to.
Update:
It is only fair that I update this review since I sent a mail to some regional head following from their website. Next day I get two calls one from Chennai and other from my Representative. Former said they will check my documents and the later was willing to come to my address to collect a copy of the document. Finally it was resolved. Only thing is Why go there in the first place?
