I’ve been using an ICICI Sterling Silver Card VISA for around 5-6 months and was pretty happy about the procedures. The free for life card somehow came with a catch that you have to subscribe to a living media press’s magazine for a year. Since that was just Rs.208 and I liked business today I subscribed for the same. This is far far better than the compulsory Reebok shoe that you have to purchase for a free-for-life Standard Chartered Credit Card. So the first impression was good.
Moreover, this is the 1st card that I applied myself without any executive calling me up. I already have a savings account with ICICI and I put a mail in the query section that I would like to apply for an ICICI-HP co-branded credit card. The executive came home after about 2 days since I put the query and finished the necessary formalities. He said the credit card will be released in 2 weeks time. In 10 days itself I got the card. But alas, it was a sterling silver card and not a HP-co-branded card. This angered me and thought I’ll never use the card. Anyway its free-for-life. Real free-for-life meaning if you don’t use it, you won’t be charged a single paisa. So I just kept it idle.
Then one day, ICICI announced a 0 fuel surcharge for any ICICI Bank Credit Card till March 31st. So I started using the card at HP fuel pumps. I regularly check online the transactions made. For one of the pumps, the fuel surcharge was not reversed. Immediately I put a query online, and within 2 days they reversed it. That is what I call service.
After March 31st, I found it difficult since I got used to the convenience of not carrying cash to fuel pumps. So I put again a query online that I need to convert this card into a co-branded credit card with HP. Then they immediately cancelled my current credit card and were ready to issue the new card. I got the new card in a week’s time.
I didn’t know the new card had so many benefits. It pays you back 2.5% of the fuel purchased during the month if the fuel purchases exceed Rs.3000. Anyway, my fuel expenses easily cross 5000 so this isn’t a problem for me. Good that there are offers like this. This is also a lifetime-free card.
And one thing I admire about ICICI is that they have very amusing offers. Like shop after 7pm, get 10 times reward points. Many 0% EMI offers. I have even bought a Dell Laptop at 0% interest for 9EMIs. Overall, a very satisfying experience with my ICICI-HP co-branded credit card.
