ICICI may have captured the Indian Credit Card market by its horns and may have the biggest share, but they are the worst!!! They have the most horrible customer service of all.
This incident happened about 5 years ago (and I wish something like MouthShut existed at that time). I had a credit card from ICICI and was making very regular payments. For whatever reason, I wanted to cancel my card and I called up the customer service to do so. First of all, it was never easy to get through their customer service number (I hope it has improved now) and then the people they have employed are probably the ones who do not get a job elsewhere. I gave my cancellation request and the person had a lot of trouble comprehending.
At the end, I was told that my card has been cancelled. And what does one do after a card is cancelled, not to worry about any transaction and payments on that card. And I did exactly that. But, I was surprised to see a bill of 12K for the cancelled card after two months. It was from some registered bills. When I called up and told them that those transactions should have been denied by the bank because I have cancelled the card, they said that they do not do so. Neitehr was I informed about that, and nor was I informed about the outgoing transactions. I refuted the payment and the buggers at ICICI kept on accruing late charges and later debited my account with the amount.
And I feel they had no right to first continue the payments without my consent and later, they had no right to debit my account without my consent.
Since then, I have cut off all banking relationships with ICICI and know so many people who have been cheated by ICICI who have done so.
To this day, I do not shy away from dissuading anyone I know from using ICICI products or services.
