I got two calls tele-marketing calls on my cell phone at an interval of three to four hours. On the first occasion, I informed the person calling that I do have valid credit card from ICICI Bank and inspite of this got a call again from the same number. The second time the lady was rude and just hung up the phone when I got irate.
As far as I know recently the Supreme Court issued notices to the Centre, the law ministry, telecom regulator TRAI, cellular operators and banks to stop the invasion of privacy through unsolicited calls to cellphone users.
The Supreme Court of India, on February 7, 2005, has issued notices to the Central Government, all cellular operators, and banks, seeking a law to ban such unsolicited
calls.
The number from where I got both these calls is 022-56051383 and according to Tata Indicom Directory Assistance (197) this number belongs to:
Ramesh R Chitlengi
Flat No 35, Floor No - 3,
Tara House, Cavel X Lane,
Kalbadevi, Mumbai 400002.
I called up the number (022-56051383) and asked to speak with the owner or a manager however the operator neither revealed the name of the company nor passed on the line to the concerned person. Infact she reverted back by saying that DO WHATEVER YOU CAN.
I also called up the customer support to report the incident but the phone banking officer at ICICI did not give me any case id or ticket number which would serve as a proof that the complaint has been registered and some action will be taken.
I sincerely feel that due to the absence of law pertaining to telephone consumers and the regulatory forum the consumer can approach, the subscribers/consumers privacy is getting vulnerable with each passing day.
THIS WAS THE EMAIL SENT SENT TO THE CUSTOMER SUPPORT OF ICICI BANK. I GOT A CANNED RESPONSE FROM THEIR ECRM APOLOGIZING FOR THE INCONVENIENCE CAUSED.
