ICICI Lombard Motor Insurance - A nightmare !!

This is my humble request to all of you, please don’t go with ICICI Lombard motor insurance policy for your car, after having a painful experience .

I had purchased this policy 8 months back for my new car Dzire and a week back , my car met with an unfortunate event.

It was parked in the society parking area and the part of building elevation collapsed nearby causing scratches and dents on my car’s right door , right glass, rear bumper and bonnet.  When I approached ICICI Lombard for the settlement of this claim under cashless facility, they started asking me for an FIR . I was dumbstruck as to how can they even ask for an FIR for such cases as it’s clearly mentioned on the Lombard site that , FIR is required for  major accidents on highways, theft or third party injury .

When I asked about whereabouts of this clause mentioned in the terms/conditions, I got a very rude and arrogant replies from their agents . They even went ahead and told me that it’s not mentioned anywhere and such processes, documents required are not written anywhere and you have to furnish an FIR if you want this claim to be settled.

I was even ready to let them inspect the actual accident spot and get the society witnesses signatures if they need it , but their agents were so adamant about the FIR requirement.

Finally, I had to escalate this matter with the western-southern region head and it’s then when they agreed to inspect the accident location.

During all this time ie. for around 6-7 days, my new car was in the dealer’s garage lying unattended and without being done anything on it .

After giving them the ultimatum and warning of legal consequences, ICICI Lombard agreed to pay the claim amount partly .  I got my car repaired after 10 days where it should have actually taken 3-4 days only .  Also, this claim got settled even without submitting an FIR . I wonder if it’s ICICI Lombard’s strategy to ask for an FIR and reject claims . Their agents don’t have any ethics instilled in them and are dumb as they themselves are not aware about the process.

I hope, my experience will benefit someone  .

Regards,

Prasad
