Very poor service, boneheaded customer service

I am a graduate student studying in Washington, DC.  I purchased the student travel insurance plan in Mumbai before leaving for DC in August 2007.  I had a medical emergency in Dec 2007, followed by regular clinic check-ups in Jan 2008.  My bills for hospitalization in Dec 2007 were cleared, ICICI assured me that my Jan 2008 bills will also be paid immediately.  However, this did not happen.  I have been pursuing ICICI Lombard for 4 months now for bill clearance, as has been the clinic administrator, who was assured of a prompt payment, before agreeing to see me.


For 4 months, I have spoken to a call center in India that operates on behalf of ICICI.  They have continually assured me that bills will be paid, but have not done so.  I have not received any valid response to an email request for proof of payment.  Forwarding my complaint to customer support at ICICI does not lead to an independent review and resolution.


To keep it short, if you are a student like me, don’t buy ICICI Student Travel Insurance.  You don’t want to face this hassle should you have an emergency.  There are other alternatives - AIG for instance.
