I am an NRI customer of ICICI bank for almost 10 years holding a bank account with them. A few months back, I visited my bank branch in RH Road, Chennai asking for a NRE/NRO demat account. A few personal visited my house, helped me fill up the forms, collected all the documents and said the account will be active in a few days. I had clearly requested for an NRE and NRO account to be opened.
I followed up with the bank when I was there and was told that there is some delay in translation of the documents. Later when I returned back abroad, I inquired again and was then told that only an NRO demat account has been opened as the bank has not received any forms for the NRE demat account.
I contacted the person who visited my house and he accepted that it was an error and that they had forgotten to fill the NRE account form. They said they would send an agent to my house abroad to collect the documents again but nothing happened on this front too.
It has been more than 5 months now and despite my repeated follow up, I get no response from the bank officials. I tried emailing to the Head Service quality and the COO( as mentioned in the customer service website for escalations) but there is no response from them.
I also asked the person who visited my house to provide me the contact details of the bank manager so atleast I can talk and sort it out with him/her, but he clearly does not want to do that.
For any NRE customers, my advice would be to stay away from this bank. The persons involved are mostly incompetent and do not know the process do do things and there is really no interface to escalate such simple issues.
