Idea Cellular launched their service in Mumbai and I was one of the 1st few takers in Mumbai. Let me touch upon the reviews one by one. NETWORK. The single most important factor of any telecom service provider is the network. Idea Mumbai’s NETWORK REACH IS GOOD in terms of reaching far stretched places in Mumbai(even Sanjay Gandhi National Park), downtown, Navi Mumbai and the likes. BUT, their network high-five signals seemed completely useless with an embarrasingly high amount of CALL DROPS faced, despite over 2 months of complaint to their customer care, nodal officers and the likes. CUSTOMER CARE SERVICE I have used Idea in Delhi also and was almost sure their customer service would be excellent.
The good part - I don’t need to press a thousand useless options before reaching their executive, hence saves time. They were polite enough even when I lost my patience due to reasons below. The bad one - they take my request and it takes decades for them to act on it. Whether it was activating my outgoing once the verification was done, or when I was over credit limit and I paid an extra deposit to re-start my outgoing, or activating my roaming facilities, or missed call alert, every time they took requests but never acted upon it, or so did the result eventually tell. 3 days to annoyingly 3 weeks. Costs. Idea has usually been one of the best in terms of affordability and tariffs and its Mumbai prices continue to boast of that. While tha tariffs are being advertised as promotional schemes, competition following up with similar tariffs makes it compelling to believe that these tarfifs are to stay or would only go south.
The tariffs are a good mix for both local and STD users and give sufficient clarity and simplicity of each of its plans. GPRS Overall verdict:- Simple- if you’re ready for a prolonged battle with helpless customer care executives, and don’t mind sudden "hello, hello, are you there"(read, call drops), go ahead for this relatively cost-effective service.
