One thing I never used to miss whenever I went to my native place - was the popular ice-creams like Gadbad, Dilkhush and the like. Cheap, heavy duty ice-creams with fantastic names are a highlight of Mangalore - you usually get them everywhere.
Cashing in on the opportunity, Ideal’s started a chain of ice cream parlours all across. I have been to the Mangalore branch. This is a pretty big place - more like your standard cafe or restaurant. Other than ice creams, you get beverages like coffee and maybe some bakery stuff - but that is not what you come here for.
Awesome ice-creams, that is what the place is famous for. This parlour chain has gone international with its menu, so you get Tiramasu and Banana Split, alongwith the local Gadbad, Dilkhush, Lighthouse, Honeymoon Special and all the fancy stuff.
Gadbad is my favourite; basically it is a mix of dryfruits, falooda, fresh fruits and ice-cream in a large glass which can bring a huge smile to any ice cream lover’s face. Must try, if you are in Mangalore.They have also launched their own brand of ice-creams which are available at retail stores in Mangalore.
