Washing my dirty linen in public!

Or so the saying goes! Had a fight with a fellow on some weird charges today. Now with a IFB service Rep!!! Thought what better place to vent your anger!!! And the anger is compounded when you’re that unfortunate bachelor that has to do his own laundry!!(Miss ya mom :( )

To begin with products such washing machines, Microwave Ovens and Fridges have a limited flexibility in them being reviewed.

You could borrow your friend’s car or cell phone and share your view.

You can’t go to your neighbour and say “Madam, Can I wash my sins at your place?” or can’t take your delicious batter to be baked in her heat. Or go like “Madam, paani barf ho gaya??” Also they ain’t products you replace when you’ve got your pay hike, for you to have the luxury to review various models!

First you need to know whether you wanna pick a Front loading machine. Forget the brand. My brother picked it up because Front loading machines wash clothes better or so he was told. I have been using it for two years and here’s a list of perils.

1. Kum Jhaag wala Sabun: The first time I heard P&G/HUL coming out with separate detergents for Front loading I thought it was another marketing gimmick. No it ain’t! The logic is that front loading machines need less foam. Not that they wash better but excess detergent can get the foam seeping out of the drum.

So if you’re Shabana Azmi and thinking to save two buckets water…Go for it. I like the foam. Mentally it satisfies me that the clothes are washed better!

2. Wait till it gets over: If you’re me and you’ve found something more to add in the drum(which is the usual case) once the washing cycle as started, you’ve gotta let the whole water drain out first so that it’s doesn’t fall off while opening the inlet. It’s working against gravity so you’ll understand….

Throwing the baby with the bath water??

3. Vibration. Can’t say about other machines but this machine at times starts from one corner of the Kitchen and lands up somewhere else. Cause of the sheer vibration. I have to hold the machine to stop it from moving.

I feel likeI’m a model for those weight loss products that come on Tele Shopping where you have the thing wrapped around your waist and machine vibrates your body!!!!

4. The right amount of clothes: You can’t add just your soiled sportswear or a month’s bed sheets. The weight of the clothes needs to be right or thereabouts. Else that’s what causes point no. 3

5.You see the small square in the picture on the left hand bottom of the machine. That houses a water filter of a sort. Where it filters the drain water for your valuable belongings like coins!! Saves ya money!

No but that filter is a pain to open regularly and if it isn’t washed or the excess water isn’t drained, your clothes won’t dry during the Intense spin phase(which is otherwise good)

But why isn’t there an alert saying that dude “My belly is due! Please release me

I was told initially that your clothes don’t entangle as the machine works against gravity. Experience say’s otherwise though. They do entangle and no help here…..

Another problem: The tray that holds the machine at the bottom during labour pain isn’t that strong enough and IFB doesn’t have any warranty on that accessorary!

And service!! My Lord, Am I impressed. You call them and you’re expected to go in for a Service offer which ends up being cheaper. In fact so cheaper that replacing a part which otherwise is included for free in the service agreement ends up costing almost 3 times more!! IFB you suck!

Damn and they (reps) could also do with some better soft skills! About specs, I see a static thing written on the other side of this review so….

In a nutshell decide whether you want a front loading one. I would strongly recommend against it though for matter-of-fact reasons such as adding additional clothes and getting the weight right. Or for that matter the Froth issues.

Don’t think the problem is specific to my machine but with the whole front loading concept that I loathe. Price - Rs 22k when we bought it. Now its there for around rs 14k-15k

Happy Washing!
