I’m working in the software industry and had a burning desire to complete the M.A English course through distance education. One of the options to do that was through a course from IGNOU.
I stay at Hyderabad and the site https://ignou.ac.in was quite useful in providing information. The course seemed to be quite good and promising.
However, they have listed a lot of phone numbers(both local i.e Hyderabad for me) and the Delhi Regional Centre( the main office).
I have been calling the center continuously since the past thirty days or more to no avail.
There are two phone numbers listed for Hyd IGNOU 040-23221254 and 040-23221255. When I try the first number, it goes on ringing and no one lifts the phone at all. The second number is always busy. After a while, when I try again , the first one is busy and the second number goes on ringing.
Utterly pissed off with this behavior, I went to the IGNOU regional center in Hyd where a lady receptionist was on her own cell phone and speaking away to glory. She handed me an admission booklet for a price of Rs. 100. The best part was that there were the landlines next to her and they were going on ringing and she was nonchalantly not even answering the calls.
I then asked if they have a supplementary examination system to which she replied in the negative.
And I left the place, vowing never to come back as long as I could actually help it.
I have read a review here earlier saying that no one lifts the calls. Thanks for the warning. I wnated to clarify the same for whoever is unlucky enough to have to study through the IGNOU center.
Also incidentally, the Delhi center has the same problem of not answering calls.
I have made the decision now to go for B.R.Ambedkar Open University, Jubilee Hills Hyderabad, (Inshallah). The lady receptionist on the phone from the Student Services was really polite and rendered information over the phone.
This was really useful as I lead a busy life officially.
I wouldnt recommend IGNOU because of the callous attitude of the administration and the bad facilities.
