Two years of education and lot of friends for life

Hi ,

It being my alma mater , I was going through the reviews posted on the same earlier. And I was really amazed that someone could write against my alma mater and I was really curious to know that what these people have written.

Now to my surprise I realise that most of these ’’XYZ does not recommend IIM Ahmedabad’’ have actually reviewed the IIMs as a whole or even the Business management education in the country and have very mercilessly given all this ’’credit’’ to IIMA.

I feel happy that my fellow MSians relate everything happening to IIMs as a whole to IIMA only but would like them to realise that all these decisions on IIMs are formed within a committee of which all directors of IIMs are a part of.

Now about the insti , which is not much talked about .... .... all I can say is that its a great place to be , make friends and learn.

Its not the building that makes an institute , its the professors and students and I can vouch for both (and I guess people would agree with me)

A massive structure of red stone and a bunch of 280-290 students per batch (this batch has 310 wooooohhhh ) makes it the biggest IIM batch of the country (atleast for 2003-2005 batch).

For people who commented on IIMA alumni being arrogant and ’’egoist’’ (reference to a comment on a review on IIM Bangalore) , I really respect their view point but would like to add that maybe they have not interacted with a sufficient number of IIMA grads.

About the ’’strict academic’’ concept of education , you can go to the website of IIMA to find student cultural clubs , B School meets organized , cultural extravaganzas , Inter country cultural tours , biking adventure clubs , student exchange programmes and all what you can think. We have talent nites , cultural performances, we have an in-house rock band too. Now does that sound too academics’ oriented ?

About the infra , It has 24 dorms and quite a few married student accomodation in all for around 600 students(representing both the on-going batches). (thats around 25 students per dorm on an average, which is a size good enough to allow interaction at a personal level ; we even have inter- dorm sports competitions , called ’’combos’’)

The student mix in a dorm is done making sure that there is a suitable mix of

  1. work experienced and freshers

  2. commerce , arts and engg grads (and other streams)

  3. Different geographical locations of the home towns of students

The same goes for formation of sections within a batch and discussion groups within a section. Its a complex algorithm and is one of the hundreds of processes in place at IIMA that makes the student interaction so fruitful. (BTW I was inquisitive as to how it happens in other instis , can any of you please post about it)

Basic infra like entertainment , gymnasium , tennis courts , computer labs , library etc are well maintained. Scholarships are available in plenty and I can vouch for the fact that when the institute says ’’We wont let any student leave his or her studies due to lack of funds’’ , its absolutely true.

I can talk about my alma-mater (like u all can talk about urs) for hours and hours , but would like to end it here. Would write something more very soon

Regards

Hitesh
