A Great Place to Be

A year ago, IIM Bangalore became India’s Best B School according to Business Today. Was there celebrations? Nope, because, the people of IIM B realised that they still had not caught up with IIM A. Why else do they go around saying - ’’We are No.2, but trying very hard’’

Okay, I should admit that I come from a college that is in competition to IIM-B but that also provides me with some insights as to how good this B School is. IIM A is known for its Marketing and Strategy fields, IIM C gained reputation in quantative techniques and XLRI in Human Resources. So what does IIM B have? They initially had their orientation towards PSU jobs but over the past 10 years the focus has been on developing complete managers

I have interacted with many a Bangalore graduates and I am impressed with the kind of process they go through. Check out any National or International Event, and IIM B would have made its mark, not by quantity ( IIM C beats all other institute in this area, they participate in events in large numbers and the standards they set are pretty impressive) but by the level of quality that they deliver.

With around 70 professors, the overall knowldege content of the 2 year programme is quite huge and so is the developmental work undertaken by the institute. I would regard IIM B as the silent horse which has been underpublicized (ofcourse, IIM L cries hoarse to gather attention) and can over a period of time look at giving IIM A and ISB a run for its money

I tried, before I wrote this article, to think of major defeciencies in IIM B. I worked hard on it also, but I haven’t been successful. This would be a great place to join for your management programme, and is comparable with IIM A in the placements. The only difference comes in the number of recruits, while IIM A has the capacity to place more numbers in a company, usually comapies take a slightly lesser number from IIM B.
