Old is not always gold

Talking about the oldest theatres that exist in Mumbai, I think Imperial cinema will top the list. It is a small theatre and has a single screen, with the latest movie running throughout the week. There are about just two to three shows in a day and the tickets are as cheap as Rs. 35 to Rs. 40. For a price that is so low, the crowd is kind of shady as well. It is advisable that women do not visit this theatre alone, or are certain to be looked upon at suspiciously making them feel uncomfortable.

The cinema is mostly dominated by male patrons. I have once gone for a late evening show with my bunch of about 15 friends, because we were really in the mood to try something crazy. There were about six girls, so with a number as large as 15, it won’t really be a problem for women. However, avoid going there as a couple or bunch of female friends.

The ambience is just ok and you might have mosquitoes biting you. It isn’t really a well-maintained theatre. The seats aren’t comfortable or spacious. The screen is small and the sound system on Televisions at home are far more better. So, apart from the price of the tickets, there isn’t really anything catchy about Imperial Cinema.
