There’s a scene in the film, where a character enters one of alien ships and tries to fly them. It’s been 20 years since we saw Will Smith do it, in the original Independence Day movie. The character says to himself, "The technology is pretty much the same as it was two decades ago. "Then he switches on the igintion and says to himself, "Oh! Maybe a slight upgrade." Roland Emmerich has made some fine films in his early days. Even though they cried out loud to be called a blockbuster with the science almost comical and the non-existent character arcs, Emmerich’s films delivered on the jaw-dropping visuals. Think, the alien insurgents destroying the White House in the original Independence Day film or New York City gentting washed away in the Day After Tomorrow. He’s made movies on both alien insurgents and John Cusack-starrer 2012 And maybe the director is out of ideas now. Something that explains this remake, that is being marketed ad a sequel.
