Fireworks But No Substance

I’m going to be brutal about this movie. But first let me go over the pros. The effects were outstanding. They were realistic to the point of being downright frightening. Unfortunately that is the only good thing about this movie. The casting was a joke. The President was the weakest actor I have ever seen in a presidential role. The heroes of the story were a joke and Brent Spiner of Next Generation fame was totally miscast as a scientist. Bad enough the casting was so bad but the acting was even worse. The only thing that actually saves this movie besides the effects is the story itself, not that it is so believable but just the opposite. It is so outlandish that you can’t help but watch. Though I still think ’’The Day The Earth Stood Still’’ was a better movie of it’s kind, that of the ’’Aliens come to Earth genre.’’ Oddly enough, as bad as this movie was I still think you should see it. The effects alone will make the experience worth while. Just don’t expect much more.
