I was searching this book for a long time.Since last few yrs I have devolped an interest in economy, interest rates, all kind of ideologies (-isms etc etc).So I was looking this specific book coz I had read in a lot of reviews that this book is an eye opener for many indians in terms of how we see our history or to be precise "ECONOMIC HISTORY"
Why is that countries like china, south korea, singapore being far behind us in the race earlier are now far far ahead us I got my answer in this book nd this book just doesnt stop at that there r plenty of references u can refer after u read this nd u can research a lot (depends on ur interest)
Coming back to this book itself, i really liked the way he has gone through this entire book in terms of different periods of his own life .The way he has compared different points in his life. But the most important thing is to destroy the myth of "mixed economy"which we were following untill 1991.You will read about acts like MRTP etc etc nd .He is also very honest about his views about nehru .He has written bout his negative points but has also said that may be mixed economy was the wisdom tof the time but we failed to change after that .
He has told in the book about our green revolution and lal bhadur shastris attempts to reform the economy which were cut short by his untimely death. He has described Indira gandhis era pretty well.
And then came 1991, they year we finally put our economy to right path. The point he tried to make that rao was actually disowning his own reforms and slowing down.
This is the point I had come across few weeks back in ET too.It was a column related to y is that world wide ppl r electing governments who r reforming but its not happening in India. The reason is that they r not "owning the reforms".Nobody is willing to explain to the public how it benefits them. This is the one book which every Indian shld read to get to no about real things.
All in all , a gr8 book.
I am looking forward to read other indian economic books too lets c if they provide some new insights.
