I often find the television soaps quite depressing. The trailers we get to see in between breaks say it all. At the end of the day we wish to be entertained. Indian Idol is one such reality show which assures entertainment. It is a show for the common man. The auditions are conducted in a few major centers of the country and we get to see all kinds of singers and non-singers participating. We see the plight and life of the common man of our country.
In Indian Idol 5 around 120 contestants were selected amongs thousands for the theatre round in Mumbai.
Of them 16 were chosen for the piano round. Now finally 13 are selected, 6 selections were based on voting where as 7 were selected by the judges for the Gala Round.
The Jury:
Every season comes up with 3-5 judges who are associated with music in someway of the other. Javeed Akhther, Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik, Kailash Kher, Anu Malik, Udit Narayan, Sonali Bendre are a few who judged the show in the last four seasons.
This year, for the first time ever all the three judges have a good hold over music.
Anumalik: Singer/Composer
He is associated with the show since its birth. He comments in his own Shayarna Andaaz only when he is impressed! I find him quite genuine and straight forward in his comments.
Sunidhi Chauhaan: Singer.
While judging the contestant during the auditions I felt she was rude, she can be a little polite towards the non-singers. In the Piano and Gala Round she was mesmerized by the talent and there wasn’t any scope for criticism.
Salim Merchant: Music Director/ Singer.
He is known for infusing themes like western, sufi, Indian folk in his music. This certainly gives him an edge to appreciate the modern Indian talent well. He is doing his job pretty well.
Singers are always advised by the judges to be humble as their attitude is reflected in singing.
Celebrity Judges:
They add the extra charm to the show, they are present in a few episodes. This show has also given a platform for promoting newly released movies. In the past we have seen the promotion of Saawarya, Goal and this season HouseFull and Badmaash Company were promoted by their cast and crew.
Hosts: Hussain and Abhijeet Sawant are doing a good job.
There are 13 contestants selected for the Gala Round…
This show isn’t biased towards anyone… There are a few contestants worth mentioning.
Meghna Kumar who is visually impaired has made it to the Gala solely based on her talent.
Swaroop Khan is a folk singer from a village in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. His singing is quite unique from the rest. He is trying his best to sing the bollywood songs for the first ever time.
Bhumi Trivedi is known for her Rap and hip hop in Gujurati.
Shivam Pathak: A hardware Networking engineer by profession left his job to make it big in singing. A young lad having a great dept in his voice.
Naushad Ali Kawa: A classical and sufi singer from Jaipur. Indeed blessed with a wonderful talent.
Sreeramchandra: A tollywood singer, with a beautiful melodious voice. His voice reminds one of Kishore da.
Apart from these there is a talented lot of 7 others namely Sashi Suman, Vishwas Rai, Manisha Karmakar, Tia, Rakesh, Yasraj, Arpita.
Indian Idol gives a great platform to the young singers. If you have it in you there isn’t anything that can stop you. A few contestants in the past who couldn’t win were able to make their presence felt either on small screen or silver screen. This years winner will get an opportunity to be the playback voice in the next Yas Raj Film. A lucky break indeed..!
This show is a Musical Treat which showers enthralling entertainment.
