Indian Institute of Foreign Trade

Great Place to Learn Things

Friends, I am going to talk about the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, simple put IIFT which is in South Delhi.

To tell you about the campus it is like a mini delhi in itself. not because of the size or the culture but because of the cosmopolitan nature of the place. variety of people and cultures mix to product a distinctive style and substance. The infrastructure is one of the best in the country with every room networked and online. The batch size is only around 100 for the MBA program and delivers the best to the students.

The course I recommend is the MBA(International Business) which is the flagship course. It is totally residential and students are to form their self management core from the first day itself. The student reviews have been great. The campus boasts of fully airconditioned classrooms equipped with the lateast teaching gadgetry and internet in the classrooms and even training modules online. The sessions are intersting and generally taught by experts who worked in the area not just academic professionals.

The placement record is wonderful. Not just foreign trade and foreign placements, IIFT has a full FMCG, Auto, Pharma and IT armour. Companies like HLL, ITC, Tata are regulars on the campus. Around 15% are placed out of the country as a rule.

The knowledge base is awesome and complimented by the world class library it has.

Though the campus is small when compared to the IIM’s IIFT neverthless has all the vibrancy IIM’s can boast of and the quality of the students that go in or come out of it is on equal scales. Students willing to work hard [classes at 11pm and deadlines of midnight should not rattle you] and wake up till early mornings are encouraged to get in.

The process though is more difficult than the CAT. In the 2004 IIFT entrance around 35000 candidates applied and 90 got through the ratio being too minuscule. So expect the stiffest competition. But the examination is easy and the top score may reach around 190 upon 200 in the written exam. so you need to do the best in the exam. And a regular screenign through PI and GD follows.

As sweet the benefits are, the process is so tough. If the business school ratings are anything to go by, IIFT is top ten college and according to me rightly deserves to be so. Recent Business World ranks it 6th but notables missing are IIML and XLRI.

So all the best to the aspirants and good luck!
