The IPL is a huge success. All stakeholders are making crores.But what is the secret of its popularity?I put forward my idea:
We are now a prosperous country.Indians are successful all over the world.The IPL is a symbol of India’s financial success. The best cricketers from all over the world are willingly playing for Indian city-based clubs.Thus the league is a boost to our national ego. It makes us feel rich and powerful.We know that we now have the money to buy any cricketer in the world. This makes us feel a bit like America who believe that whatever they do has to be the best globally. Compare India to Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka who neither have the money nor the infrastructure to host a local cricket league with top overseas names. We now believe that we are so important now that the world’s best are now salaried by our business houses.Its like we have arrived and we are now invincible.
At some level, we have always felt this way but we are actually employers to the best cricketing talent worldwide.Do let me know what you think of my idea.
